Our Story
Our Vision

Our Mission
To regulate and promote an integrated African continent through the digitisation of cross border road transport systems for the safe flow of goods and people.

Reason for existence
The Cross-Border Road Transport Agency’s (C-BRTA) exists to improve the flow of passengers and freight by road transport in the region, introduce regulated competition in cross-border road transport, reduce operational constraints for the cross-border road transport industry, as a whole, to enhance transport trade facilitation, provide oversight and monitoring functions, and build industry partnerships to strategically reposition the C-BRTA.
The Cross-Border Road Transport Agency in brief
At the heart of the Cross-Border Road Transport Agency (C-BRTA) is a proud history of providing a dedicated service to cross-border road transport operators in the form of cross-border permits issued as well as the necessary support to the rapidly growing small and medium cross-border road transport businesses. The C-BRTA was establishment in 1998 and has remained the driving force behind the cross-border business for 25 years.
Established by the Cross-Border Road Transport Act 4 of 1998, the C-BRTA caters for the co-operative and co-ordinated provision of advice, regulation, facilitation and law enforcement in respect of cross-border road transport by the public and private sectors. This is underpinned by the Agency’s wholehearted belief in its mission of spearheading social and economic development within the SADC (Southern African Development Community) region through facilitating unimpeded cross border road transport movements.
