Making a difference on Mandela Day

July 18 marks a significant day in the lives of the people of South Africa. Mandela Day is a call to all South Africans to pledge their service towards changing the lives of others.

This year the Nelson Mandela Foundation has made a call-to-action for #ActionAgainstPoverty on Mandela Day and beyond.

Poverty is one of South Africa’s biggest challenge, each of us can make every day a Mandela Day by choosing to do something sustainable that will help South Africa eradicate poverty and ensure we each realise the ideal of a dignified life.

As a tribute to Nelson Mandela and his legacy, more than 30 C-BRTA employees rolled up their sleeves for more than 67 minutes by cleaning the Belle Ombre taxi rank in Pretoria and handed out 200 food parcels to the less fortunate.

“Seeing how the C-BRTA has actually made a difference has been incredibly humbling. The people at the taxi rank were so excited when we handed out the food parcels. The smiles of gratitude on the children’s faces further reinforced why we did this,” says Mmenyane Seoposengwe, Senior Manager: Strategic Communications. Thank you to all employees who took part in this initiative.
