The C-BRTA Celebrates 25 Years of Existence

On Friday, 15 March 2024, the C-BRTA celebrated its 25th Anniversary by hosting a Gala Dinner at the Radisson Hotel in Kempton Park. The event was graced by the presence of the Honourable Minister of Transport, Ms. Sindisiwe Chikunga, external stakeholders, CEO’s of transport entities and C-BRTA employees.
This 25th year milestone was not only a big achievement, but also allowed the Agency to take stock of the journey thus far, and look forward to the future. “This is a proud moment for the C-BRTA because 25 years is a long period in any organisation’s life. It is for this reason that we saw it fit to organise this celebratory event, to afford the C-BRTA an opportunity to celebrate its journey from 1998 to date with people who are important to its existence. To us this is a great milestone because the journey was not easy,” stated the Chairperson of the Board, Adv. Sonwabile Mancotywa.

As part of her keynote address, the Minister detailed the challenges the Agency faced over the years, as well as the key initiatives that the Agency currently has. “I would like the C-BRTA to continue doing the good work that they have been doing. The past 25 years have been like a roller coaster ride for the Agency, but it has managed to stay on course. With this 25th year milestone, the future looks certain for the Agency. I would like the C-BRTA team to continue working hard in its resolve to facilitate the efficient movement of passengers and goods in Africa. Let us not rest until we have linked Africa through efficient transport and trade,” concluded the Minister.

The CEO detailed the future of the C-BRTA. He outlined all the key projects of the Agency, and his vision of where the C-BRTA will be in the next 25 years. As part of the programme, the C-BRTA Long Serving Employees were acknowledged and thanked for their dedication to the Agency. A majority of
the Long Serving Employees were not in attendance, as they were deployed elsewhere.
The three employees that were in attendance, Mr. Vincent Botha, Mr. Pieter Meyer and Ms. Martha Mahlangu had the honour of cutting the cake together with the Minister, Adv. Sonwabile Mancotywa
and the CEO.
