Women’s Day 2020

Every year on 09 August we celebrate National Women’s Day, a day dedicated to honouring the achievements of women. It is a day for women to stand together to fight for gender equality and women’s rights. Women’s Day draws attention to significant issues that women face daily, such as domestic violence, sexual harassment in the workplace, and unequal pay.
South Africa has one of the highest statistics of gender-based violence (GBV). Gauteng has recorded many incidents of GBV since the Covid-19 lockdown began in March and have seen a continuous rise to date.
To celebrate Women’s Day this year let us all walk to remember those who are and have been affected by GBV.
This initiative is not only for women; men are also encouraged to participate as a way to pledge in the fight against GBV and to refrain from atrocities against women.
How it works:
From Tuesday, 04 August until Sunday, 09 August employees are encouraged to do either of the following:
1.Take 9000 steps daily or
- Walk 9km daily or
- Run 9km daily
Send pictures of your run or walk to DG.Communications@cbrta.co.za to be featured in the upcoming edition of the Voice e-News.
“Let us be the generation that will end sexism, patriarchy and the generation that will be putting an end to violence against women in all its forms. Let us be the generation that realises economic emancipation in our country,” – President Cyril Ramaphosa.
