Regulatory Services

Overview of the Regulatory Services Division

The Regulatory Services Division is responsible for regulating access to the cross-border road transport market such as freight and passengers through a permit administration regime. In other words, the Division licences commercial cross-border transportation in the SADC region and the rest of the African continent by providing cross-border road transport permits.  Moreover, these permits are an essential element for regulating commercial cross-border transportation in South Africa and the neighbouring countries. The Cross-Border Road Transport Act no. 4 of 1998, as amended, governs the C-BRTA regulatory framework. This is the founding legislation of the Cross Border Road Transport Agency (C-BRTA).
